The Daily American came out with its season previews of football teams for this fall and have profiled each of the Somerset County programs.

Windber the next stop on TV’s list

The Windber Ramblers got their time to shine on WJAC-TV’s “Two-A-Days” on Monday.

The Ramblers are positioned for a pretty good campaign, returning many of the key components from last year’s District 5 championship squad.

District 5 track titles dominated by Bedford

The Bedford boys and girls teams each earned district championships on Wednesday at Northern Bedford, according to The Tribune-Democrat.

There were plenty of highlights on both the boys and girls side, but especially the girls, as one Conemaugh Township pole vaulter soared to new heights.

Berlin sweeps WestPAC championships

The Berlin boys were certainly favorites to fare well at the WestPAC track championships on Tuesday, but it was the girls that proved a bit of a surprise.

For the girls, it was a return to the top after falling to Windber at the meet a season ago. On the boys side, it is the first championship, according to today’s Tribune-Democrat.

As two of the top programs in the WestPAC, it’s no surprise that the Berlin boys and Windber girls ran away from the field on Monday at the conference’s annual relay event.

On a stellar day, there were plenty of records set, according to today’s Tribune-Democrat.

Windber puts three into college sports

Windber stars Kevin Erickson, Jarod Spinelli and Ashley Steinbach are headed to the next level.

Each recently announced their intention to play college sports, according to The Daily American, making four Windber athletes to move on this year.

Windber, Township, Berlin athletes among best at Ship

Windber’s Sarah Snyder and Conemaugh Township’s Kelly Vann each finished in second place during the Shippensburg Invitational on Saturday.

Snyder finished second in the 300 hurles while Vann was No. 2 in the pole vault. Berlin’s Katie Bowman was fourth in the pole vault.

Windber, Berlin split track meet

In what was expected to be a close competition between Windber and Berlin on the track Thursday afternoon proved to be just that, with the boys and girls splitting their contests.

Throw in District 5’s Chestnut Ridge in the mix, and it was a star-studded meet.

The Windber boys and girls track teams are going to figure out a lot this afternoon.

A season after the boys won the WestPAC regular season championship and the girls captured the conference championship meet crown, the Ramblers will face off against Chestnut Ridge and Berlin.

Snyder speeds to Mount St. Mary’s

Windber senior hurdler Sarah Snyder inked a letter-of-intent on Wednesday to run on the track team at NCAA Division I Mount St. Mary’s next year.

Snyder finished fourth in the state last season in the 300 hurdles and has a great chance to pace the state this season for the Ramblers, who face Chestnut Ridge and Berlin in a key meet this afternoon.
