Miller hoops his way to AP team

Central Cambria senior Jordan Miller was honored by his community a few weeks ago with his own week. Now, he’s part of the Class AA first team for the state of Pennsylvania.

The basketball star, who will  go to Pitt-Johnstown next year to play for coach Bob Rukavina, averaged better than 30 points per game this season. More…

Area pair lead Mountain Cat AAU team

Shade’s Kenny Gibbons and North Star’s Jacob Fleegle shined for the Mountain Cat Basketball Boys’ 16-under AAU team during a trip to a Pittsburgh tournament, according to The Daily American.

The team went 3-0 at the Pittsburgh Tip-Off Tournament held at Robert Morris University. More…

Showcase’s second go-round happens today

The Tribune-Democrat started the Senior Hoops Showcase a year ago to highlight some of the top senior basketball players in the area.

The event’s second year is this afternoon with a girls game tipoff at 3 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m. at UPJ’s Sports Center. More…

Blair County sweeps Mirror Classic games

Despite 18 points and 12 rebounds from North Star’s Luke Zellem, the Central Pa. boys team fell to Blair County 108-102 during Friday night’s Altoona Mirror Classic, formerly the Big John Riley game.

Zellem was just edged by Jordan Miller of Central Cambria for the Central Pa. MVP honors.

On the girls side, Bedford’s Brandy Harris scored 13 points, but the Central Pa. girls fell 66-64 in overtime. More…

Sunday’s Senior Hoops Showcase getting Scouted

It’s getting scouted, but not that kind of scouted, according to a story in Saturday’s Tribune-Democrat.

North Star’s Roberts leads wrestling contingent

Somerset County’s finest wrestlers were gathered at Hoss’ Steak and Sea House in Somerset on Friday for the 36th annual all-star wrestling banquet.

North Star freshman Nick Roberts, the state’s 103-pound champion, took top honors, finishing his season with a record of 32-6. He is the first freshman to win the outstanding wrestler award, according to the story in today’s Daily American. More…
