Daily American gives us a complete rundown of previews

Congratulations to the Conemaugh Township Indians, the District 5 Class A champions after a thrilling victory over Windber on Friday night!

We told you it was going to be a good one, and we weren’t wrong. It came down to Scott Thomas’ field goal in the waning seconds to give the Indians the title, 21-20.

Be sure to keep an eye on this page, as we let you know about any future broadcasts involving the Indians, who get a week off before facing the District 7 (WPIAL) champion.

TV takes time at Township

WJAC-TV turned its cameras to Conemaugh Township on Tuesday, profiling the Indians as part of its “Two-A-Days” series leading up to the football season.

Check out the video by following the link! The other team profiled on Tuesday was the Laurel Highlands’ Forest Hills Rangers.

Unlike Portage, it doesn’t appear that WJAC-TV has any extra “raw” video with Conemaugh Township players and coaches.

Two WestPAC talents leading South offense

North Star’s Cory Kaltenbaugh and Conemaugh Township’s Matt Duray will be at the helm for the South in Saturday’s Ken Lantzy Finest 40 All-Star football game, and coach Ken Salem of Bishop McCort couldn’t be happier.

Ben Watkins was a 40th round draft pick of the New York Yankees this week, and both The Daily American and Tribune-Democrat have stories about the former Conemaugh Township standout.

Watkins is a standup guy and we wish him all the best as he begins a pro career in the not-too-distant future!

Conemaugh Township’s Kelly Vann finished third in the pole vault at the PIAA championships on Friday while Northern Cambria’s Janae Dunchack won her third state high jump championship. By the way, Dunchack’s still got another year to go!

Meyersdale sitting at top of heap

The Daily American reports this morning that the Meyersdale baseball team has clinched the No. 1 seed in the District 5 Class A playoffs.

The Red Raiders earned the spot by topping Conemaugh Township 7-4 on Friday behind the effort of winning pitcher Ben Lohr, who also drove in a run in the fourth inning. More…

The Bedford boys and girls teams each earned district championships on Wednesday at Northern Bedford, according to The Tribune-Democrat.

Watkins earns praise of entire league

Former Conemaugh Township standout Ben Watkins was named the Pitcher of the Year by the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Pitt-Johnstown senior right-hander scored a 7-1 record this season, with an ERA of 0.83 through 53.1 innings of work. More…
