Yellow Jackets take turn on the TV

Ferndale was one of the four WestPAC football teams that found a new coach during this offseason, with Tony Penna Jr. taking over the reins.

On Saturday, WJAC-TV previewed the Yellow Jackets’ season during the station’s “Two-A-Days” feature.

Ferndale gets a man in place

WJAC-TV is reporting via a text entry on its web site that Tony Penna Jr. will take over as football coach and athletic director at Ferndale.

Penna becomes the fourth new head coach in the WestPAC this season, following Jim Fisher at Conemaugh Valley, Jerry Kaizen at Rockwood and Gene Boley at Shade.

The Associated Press’ All-State girls basketball team has two juniors from WestPAC schools on its second-team.

Conemaugh Valley’s Taylor Gruss and Ferndale’s Brittany Eisenhuth each were named to the Class A second-team as four players from The Tribune-Democrat’s coverage area were selected. More…

Danel, Fyock selected to coach all-star game

Props to Shade boys coach Wade Fyock and North Star girls coach Ed Danel, who have been selected to coach Cambria-Somerset boys and girls teams, respectively, in The Tribune-Democrat’s Senior Hoops Showcase. Two fine coaches, and certainly all-stars in their own right.

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to have one more game with my guys and see some of the other kids that we competed against and have an opportunity to get to know them better,” Fyock told The Tribune-Democrat.

Fyock’s Panthers lost in the second round of the PIAA Class A playoffs, while Danel’s Cougars departed in the same round, against Villa Maria. More…

Tussey girls send Ferndale packing

We got to see Tussey Mountain against Berlin for the girls District 5 championship, so we know there’s a lot of great talent in Saxton. Well, Wednesday night, the girls proved it, coming from behind to down District 6’s Ferndale, a WestPAC rep and solid team in its own right.
