North Star wrestler keeps winning

The Daily American catches up with North Star’s Nick Roberts to find out about a successful run at the National Duals.

Roberts won the PIAA championship this spring in his freshman year with the Cougars.

Somerset stud headed for UPJ

Golden Eagles wrestlier Kyle Pucci isn’t going to have to travel very far for college when that first day comes in the fall.

The Somerset senior has committed to wrestle for legendary coach Pat Pecora at Pitt-Johnstown, inking a letter-of-intent during a ceremony on Wednesday, according to a story in The Daily American. More…

Pitt-Johnstown’s Shane Valko was looking for a national championship during this past season at the NCAA Divison II wrestling championships, but came up short in his bid.

Somerset senior Kyle Pucci will be headed to Salisbury, Md., on May 2-3 as he competes at the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Association Eastern National Championships.

Pucci advanced to the tournament by picking up a first-place finish in a district tournament, according to The Daily American. More…

Penn Cambria sophomore Evan Link, the PIAA runner-up at 103 pounds, is closing in on a title at the National High School Sophomore Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach,Va.

The Altoona Mirror has a report on the tournament, which featured a bunch of area kids.

Link was PIAA runner-up to North Star freshman Nick Roberts.

Portage junior Shawn Perich led a host of area wrestlers during Day 1 of the National High School Wrestling Tournament in Virginia Beach, Va., according to the Altoona Mirror.

Perich won his only Day 1 bout while Penn Cambria had four wrestlers win their only bouts of the day. More…

Somerset County’s finest wrestlers were gathered at Hoss’ Steak and Sea House in Somerset on Friday for the 36th annual all-star wrestling banquet.

North Star freshman Nick Roberts, the state’s 103-pound champion, took top honors, finishing his season with a record of 32-6. He is the first freshman to win the outstanding wrestler award, according to the story in today’s Daily American. More…
