The girls scene from Hershey led by NC’s Dunchack, CT’s Vann

Conemaugh Township’s Kelly Vann finished third in the pole vault at the PIAA championships on Friday while Northern Cambria’s Janae Dunchack won her third state high jump championship. By the way, Dunchack’s still got another year to go!

District 5 track titles dominated by Bedford

The Bedford boys and girls teams each earned district championships on Wednesday at Northern Bedford, according to The Tribune-Democrat.

There were plenty of highlights on both the boys and girls side, but especially the girls, as one Conemaugh Township pole vaulter soared to new heights. More…

Bedford boys take title at West Central meet

One of the premier track and field events in the region was held on Friday, and the Bedford boys came out on top of the Class AA heap.

With 68 points, the Bisons edge Tyrone and Everett for the win, according to the Altoona Mirror. More…

Blair County sweeps Mirror Classic games

Despite 18 points and 12 rebounds from North Star’s Luke Zellem, the Central Pa. boys team fell to Blair County 108-102 during Friday night’s Altoona Mirror Classic, formerly the Big John Riley game.

Zellem was just edged by Jordan Miller of Central Cambria for the Central Pa. MVP honors.

On the girls side, Bedford’s Brandy Harris scored 13 points, but the Central Pa. girls fell 66-64 in overtime. More…

The Altoona Mirror has weighed in with its softball capsules. Most of the teams are from District 6, but there’s also a few from District 5 in Bedford County.

It’s certainly worth a read when you’ve got time. Of course, of all the teams, the LHAC’s Bishop Guilfoyle might be the one to watch, so perhaps some of the WestPAC can breathe a little easier for now!

Bedford’s Creps honored by Mirror

Bedford wrestling coach Brian Creps was named coach of the year by the Altoona Mirror in a story published today. Creps’ Bisons went 19-2 this season, and finished fourth at the PIAA Class AA tournament.

Tyrone’s A.J. Schopp was named the wrestler of the year after his only loss came in the state championship at 119 pounds.
