TV takes time at Township

WJAC-TV turned its cameras to Conemaugh Township on Tuesday, profiling the Indians as part of its “Two-A-Days” series leading up to the football season.

Check out the video by following the link! The other team profiled on Tuesday was the Laurel Highlands’ Forest Hills Rangers.

Unlike Portage, it doesn’t appear that WJAC-TV has any extra “raw” video with Conemaugh Township players and coaches.

Somerset leads group of advancing baseball teams

The Somerset Golden Eagles continued on their path toward a repeat of a state championship appearance by dispatching Forest Hills on Monday.

The Golden Eagles advanced to the District 6 Class AAA championship with the 7-5 win and will face No. 3 Bellefonte on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona.

Valko’s debut in freestyle a good one

Pitt-Johnstown’s Shane Valko was looking for a national championship during this past season at the NCAA Divison II wrestling championships, but came up short in his bid.

So the Forest Hills graduate is doing everything he can this summer to prepare to bring a national title back to the Richland campus. That even includes wrestling freestyle for the first time, according to a story in today’s Tribune-Democrat. More…

Somerset baseball bounces Forest Hills with monster inning

Of course, when that half-inning lasts an hour and brings in a dozen runs, that’s all you need.

George Roberts has been a strong player for the Forest Hills Rangers for a while now, and he proved his worth again on Tuesday.

Penn State senior Jake Strayer, a former standout at Forest Hills, fell twice on Friday, ending his career with the Nittany Lions in stunning fashion.

Valko a runner-up at nationals; Whetstone finishes fifth

Forest Hills graduate Shane Valko fell 2-1 in overtime against Kutztown’s Joe Kammerer and finished second in the nation at the NCAA Division II national wrestling championships. Pitt-Johnstown’s Valko, who beat Kammerer for the East Region crown in overtime two weeks ago, gave up an escape in the first tie-breaker period and was ridden out in the second.

Only a junior, Valko’s still got more time ahead to prove he’s the best in the country. Congratulations on a strong season and an All-American finish! More…
