Cougars sent packing by Mount Union

In Baseball, District 5, North Star, PIAA, WestPAC on June 4, 2009 at 7:20 pm

Three-time PIAA champion Mount Union got on the board early and often, opening up a sizeable hole and knocking North Star from the Class AA quarterfinals on Thursday.

The Trojans, the District 6 runners-up, scored five times in the first and three more in the fifth en route to the 9-0 victory.

Mount Union sophomore Brock Goodling threw a no-hitter and allowed only three baserunners all afternoon. The District 5 champion Cougars hit the ball out of the infield only once, a flyout to right field.

Congratulations to the North Star Cougars and an outstanding crop of seniors for the efforts all season. It was a memorable ride and all should be proud of the efforts.
