The region was well represented in the first round of the PIAA baseball and softball championships.

The Bishop McCort and North Star baseball teams, as well as the Northern Cambria softball team all moved on with victories Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, Chestnut Ridge softball was knocked off, keeping the day from being a total success.

Matt Kastelic saved the day for District 6 champ Bishop McCort with a ninth-inning single as the Crimson Crushers won 6-5 over Carmichaels.

The only downside was the loss of District 5 champion Chestnut Ridge, which fell 7-4 to District 7 runner-up Sto-Rox. It was the first loss of the year for the Lions, who racked up 22 victories, but didn’t have a senior on the team.
