Watkins earns praise of entire league

Former Conemaugh Township standout Ben Watkins was named the Pitcher of the Year by the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Pitt-Johnstown senior right-hander scored a 7-1 record this season, with an ERA of 0.83 through 53.1 innings of work.

In addition, Watkins struck out 63 batters and walked only four. He’s ranked second nationally in walks per nine innings with 0.63 and fifth in ERA.

Watkins, a three-time WVIAC pitcher of the week award winner, is joined by teammate Kaleb Fleck on the WVIAC’s first-team.
