LaRod NFL bound with Arizona

In District 6, Football, Greater Johnstown, LHAC, Pitt on April 27, 2009 at 9:46 am

One of the top football players to come out of the area in recent years is Greater Johnstown graduate LaRod Stephens-Howling.

Now the former Pitt tailback is headed to the NFC champion Arizona Cardinals after being drafted in the seventh round of the NFL draft on Sunday.

Stephens-Howling watched the draft from his home, according to a story in today’s Tribune-Democrat, surrounded by a small group of family and friends.

The Cardinals, coached by former Steelers assistant Ken Whisenhunt, have suggested they would like LaRod to stay as a running back. But it’s quite possible that LaRod will move around for the Cardinals, including some time on the special teams.

All the best to LaRod, whose talent on the football field is eclipsed only by how good of a person he is. He’s earned praise from all levels for his ethics on and off the field. Here’s to his continued success!
