WPIAL not happy with PIAA’s plan

A few weeks ago, QZ93 Sports Central posted a story from the Post-Gazette noting the PIAA’s interest in going to six classifications for football.

The plan, the story said, could begin in 2010. Well, now the Post-Gazette has a notebook in today’s paper talking about the WPIAL’s opposition to the idea.

The WPIAL is asking for the input of its member schools on the PIAA’s idea. Some coaches have apparently gone so far as to suggest not playing in the PIAA playoffs if the six-class idea is passed.

Much consternation also revolves around not being able to play all the WPIAL championships on the same day at Heinz Field.
