Hockey league adds team in J-Town

In Hockey on April 6, 2009 at 6:27 pm

The United Junior Hockey League has apparently added a franchise in Johnstown to start play in the 2009-2010 season.

The Johnstown Jets will become the eighth team in a league designed for 15- to 20-year-old players.

The UJHL’s Web site (careful, it has audio that plays automatically) gives this information in it’s mission statement:

The league will function as a Junior ‘A’ Hockey League and the management philosophy will focus on the maturation process and character development of each individual young man, on and off the ice.

It will be interesting to see how this league works out and I certainly hope the Cambria County Commissioners aren’t willing to lose the Chiefs because some low-level junior team has plans to play here (for now).
