Local players getting good looks with Pitt

In Bishop McCort, College Sports, Football, Greater Johnstown on March 22, 2009 at 12:26 am

Greater Johnstown graduate Antwuan Reed and Bishop McCort product Mike Cruz were each mentioned in Dale Grdnic’s coverage of Pitt’s spring practices in Sunday’s Tribune-Democrat.

Reed came to the forefront for the Panthers a season ago, earning time on the field as a true freshman.

“Last year, I played a lot on special teams, and that helped me get used to the speed of the game,” Reed said. “Now, I have to take advantage of my opportunities.”

Cruz is seeing increased work this spring with injuries to the team’s top 2 tight ends.

The team’s annual Blue-Gold game is April 11 at 2 p.m. at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
