In Basketball on March 21, 2009 at 1:11 am

After Day 1 of the PIAA basketball championships, there have been four titles doled out at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State’s campus.

Check out a rundown of Day 1!

In Class AA girls, Villa Maria 56, York Catholic 51: Of note, it was Villa Maria that knocked out North Star in the tournament’s second round, and it was York Catholic that beat Westmont in the state title game a couple years ago.

In Class AAAA girls, Mount Lebanon 67, Cardinal O’Hara 58: Of note, Cardinal O’Hara at one point this year was ranked No. 1 in the country by ESPNU.

In Class A boys, Girard College 80, Kennedy Catholic 70: Of note, Kyle Randall had 33 of Kennedy Catholic’s 70 points. Randall, who led the state in scoring as a junior, is considering playing for Harvard next year! Not too shabby.

In Class AAA boys, Archbishop Carroll 75, Greensburg Salem 54: Of note, Greensburg Salem lost in the WPIAL quarterfinals and was certainly a surprise to make it this far.
