Bishop Guilfoyle girls claim state championship

The Bishop Guilfoyle girls have trounced Nativity Catholic 49-27, and have brought home the state championship to Altoona.

The matchups today at the Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State:

Class A girls: Bishop Guilfoyle 49, Natavity Catholic 27: Of note, the Lady Marauders won their fifth state title and finished the year with 30 wins.

Class AAA girls: Archbishop Carroll 68, Lampeter-Strasburg 45: Of note, Archbishop Carroll also won the state title this year on the boys side.

Class AA boys: Imhotep Charter 75, North Catholic 67 (2OT): Of note, North Catholic started with a 12-0 lead, but Imhotep battled back for its first state title.

Class AAAA boys: Penn Wood 72, William Penn 53: Of note, Penn Wood was pretty advantageous, scoring 30 points off turnovers. The little things make all the difference.

  1. Great week-end of P.I.A.A. Action.. & as usual, I went for my (21) St. year of State Championships… I don’t know if I’m getting older (or) just burned out, but I’m getting a little tired of watching all these loaded Catholic schools & Prep Charter Schools just rolling over every one in their path. We need a more level playing field for the general public.. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching high powered H.S. Hoops basketball, but some of these kids look like they aren’t even teen-agers.. A few of them had beards bigger than mine… Hmmm !!!!All-in-all though I still got my junkie~fix of (8) games of basketball in two days time…
